About

I am Hannah Burrack, an Associate Professor and Extension Specialist in the Department of Entomology at North Carolina State University in Raleigh, NC.  Originally from Shawano, Wisconsin, a small town northwest of Green Bay, I received undergraduate degrees in entomology and rural sociology from the University of Wisconsin, Madison.  I attended graduate school in entomology at the University of California, Davis, and after graduating began work at NC State.

I consider myself an applied ecologist, and my goals are to develop pest management strategies that integrate insect biology and behavior.

I head the Specialty Crop Entomology Laboratory at NC State University, located in Unit 1, Method Road.  Our laboratory works in strawberry, blackberry, raspberry, blueberry, grape, tobacco, and other specialty crop systems, and our projects may address whole farm, single insect species, and even molecular questions.

I started writing this blog in 2009 as a means of more rapidly communicating with extension agents, growers, and any other interested readers.  Thanks for reading! In the coming months, I will be transitioning much of NC Small Fruit & Specialty Crop IPM to NC State University based resources to ensure this content is maintained in the future.
